Deluso in amore, giovanotto americano parte per Bananas, piccola repubblica sudamericana, dove, dopo varie vicissitudini, viene nominato presidente dei rivoluzionari al potere e come tale torna negli Stati Uniti. 2° film di Allen regista, scritto come il primo con Mickey Rose. “Scandalosamente divertente” scrissero. Una collana di gag comiche ottime, discrete, mediocri. Uno dei suoi film più anarchici, comunque. Primo film, non accreditato, di S. Stallone nella particina di un teppista della metro.
