La studentessa Emma Robinson e il giovane scansafatiche Dean McMullen si trovano insieme in viaggio per Trinidad. Anche se hanno poco in comune, Emma e Dean partecipano a una festa su una barca e, quando durante un raid della polizia Emma cade in acqua, Dean non esita a salvarla. A bordo di un gommone senza motore, i due finiscono però alla deriva e approdano su un'isola deserta. Mentre i loro genitori fanno partire le ricerche, Emma e Dean sono costretti a fare affidamento l'una sull'altro, lasciando che tra loro nasca un tenero legame.
