In un villaggio nei pressi di Canterbury imperversa un maniaco che è solito imbrattare di colla i capelli di tutte le ragazze. Nel paese si incontrano un sergente che fa parte dell'esercito americano e che da tempo non riceve più lettere dalla sua fidanzata. Oltre a lui c'è anche un sergente inglese che sognava di suonare l'organo e si è ridotto a suonare nei cinema e una ragazza che è convinta di aver perso il fidanzato in guerra.
