Joe è uno stiratore che la sera "prende in prestito" i vestiti eleganti dei clienti per non sfigurare nei teatri e nei night. In una di queste serate conosce Constance, una ballerina, contesa dal suo impresario e da un collega. Joe se ne innamora e la ragazza, per ingelosire un'altra ballerina, ne accetta le avances. I due si fingono sposati, trascorrono una "prima notte di nozze" molto movimentata, con uno Joe nelle vesti di infermiere poiché Constance ha ingerito per errore il sonnifero che voleva dare a lui per non correre pericoli, ma finiscono per essere smascherati. Joe è disperato, ma dopo un vano tentativo di suicidio, torna alla carica per conquistare la donna amata e si trova a dover fronteggiare un attentato...
