La Terra rischia la distruzione, colpita da misteriose sfere elettromagnetiche generate in seguito a una spaventosa tempesta solare. Gli scienziati brancolano nel buio, nessuno ha la minima idea di come impedire l'ormai imminente catastrofe. Ma, se è vero che molto spesso il cinema trae spunto dalla realtà, questa volta potrebbe essere il caso opposto: un gruppo di cinefili appassionati di fantascienza è convinto di poter evitare il disastro imitando gli eroi dei loro film di culto. Ma non c'è tempo da perdere.
