Nel 1836 George Sand vive con i figli Maurice e Solange ed è arrivata al culmine della sua carriera di scrittrice. A Parigi, o nella sua tenuta di famiglia di Nohant, non si fa altro che parlare dei suoi atteggiamenti scandalosamente anticonformisti e dei suoi molti amanti. George, che sfugge con insistenza la corte di Alfred De Musset con il quale ha avuto una tempestosa relazione amorosa, vuole rompere col rozzo e violento Mallefille. La scrittrice è anche molto amica di Franz Liszt e sarà in casa sua che un giorno inconterà Chopin...
