Il professor Von Kranz, sfiduciato dal comportamento degli uomini, ha scelto di ritirarsi in volontario esilio nella sua proprietà, una villa simile ad una roccaforte protetta da ingegnosi sistemi di difesa. Sebbene abbia scoperto come rendere inefficaci i dispositivi di sicurezza atomici delle grandi potenze, egli, caduto ormai preda della follia, intende studiare come attivarli per scatenare una guerra che porterebbe all'annientamento dell'umanità. Agenti segreti russi e americani tentano di catturarlo per impadronirsi delle sue ricerche, ma Von Kranz sfuggirebbe tranquillamente alla caccia se contro di lui non si schierassero anche la figlia Sylvaine, l'assistente Yvan, lo straniero Manuel e un misterioso mostro marino che frequenta le acque attorno all'inespugnabile laboratorio.
