I fratelli Jack e Arabella Flagg versano in serie difficoltà economiche, dato che alla morte del nonno si sono ritrovati con molti debiti da pagare. Jack decide così di partire - nonostante i suoi dodici anni - per San Francisco. Arabella, disperata, spedisce sulle tracce del fratellino il fedele maggiordomo Griffin (che è segretamente innamorato di lei). Griffin riesce a rintracciare Jack, e insieme a lui una mappa che porta a una miniera d'oro...
