Chanticleer è molto considerato nella fattoria da tutti gli altri animali, perchè ritenuto capace di far sorgere il sole ogni mattino con il suo chicchirichì. Ma un brutto giorno, Chanticleer non ha cantato, e il sole si è alzato lo stesso. Deriso dagli altri animali della fattoria, il gallo Chanticleer decide di emigrare in città facendo perdere le proprie tracce. Ma da quel momento il sole non è più luminoso, il cielo si oscura e iniziano le pioggie senza fine, con grande gioia del Gran Gufo, re dell'oscurità. Il piccolo Eddy, che il gufo cattivo ha trasformato in gattino, raccoglie alcuni amici, tra cui Patou il cane, Piperita la topolina, Spillo la gazza, e parte per la città alla ricerca di Chanticleer, l'unico che con il suo canto potrebbe far ritornare il sole. Ma Chanticleer nel frattempo è diventato un grande cantante rock circuito da un ambiente losco e pericoloso.
