Mortimer Brewster, critico teatrale, va con la fidanzata a trovare le due anziane e amabili ziette. Dopo che Mortimer ha scoperto un cadavere in una cassapanca, le due candide signorine gli confessano senza difficoltà di aver già ucciso una dozzina di vecchietti e di averli sepolti in cantina con la collaborazione del nipote mentecatto Teddy. Dall'omonima commedia di Joseph Kesselring una delle più celebri opere di Frank Capra, scritta in stato di grazia e recitata da un cast impeccabile. Le simpatiche vecchiette assassine e il ritmo dei loro misfatti dimostrano che Capra non è il regista "buonista" che si vorrebbe far credere.
