Idolo infranto (1948)
Da un romanzo di Graham Greene. Il piccolo Philip, figlio di un ambasciatore, ha una sconfinata ammirazione per il suo maggiordomo, Herbert. Durante un'assenza dei genitori, Philip è affidato alle cure del maggiordomo e di sua moglie. Per involontaria colpa di Philip, la moglie scopre che il marito la tradisce. Durante un litigio, senza nessuna colpa del marito, cade e muore. Il piccolo Philip, turbato dalla tragedia, si convince che il maggiordomo abbia ucciso la moglie e intralcia le indagini della polizia per difendere il suo adorato Herbert. Alla fine l'ispettore si convince che il maggiordomo è innocente, ma Philip non prova più ammirazione per lui.
