Nella stazione balneare di Porpoise Spit i giovani passano le giornate tra festicciole, pettegolezzi e canzoni degli Abba. Muriel non è una bellezza. Comunque non si dà per vinta e sfoglia sempre i cataloghi di abiti da sposa, in costante attesa del principe azzurro. Nonostante l'ironia delle amiche e la contrarietà dei familiari, molla tutto per puntare su Sidney. Questa moderna Cenerentola ha avuto negli Stati Uniti un successo superiore anche a quello riscosso in patria; forse sproporzionato rispetto ai meriti di una commediola poco più che garbata, che deve molto alla simpatia dell'energica protagonista. Regista esuberante e irruente come la sua interprete."
