L'avvocato Bryan Becket vive la propria vita con freddo distacco. Niente e nessuno riesce a turbarlo, nemmeno la moglie, che gli chiede più tempo e impegno nella loro relazione. Ma quando l'avida e anziana zia muore misteriosamente, Bryan (scettico su qualunque argomento abbia a che fare con religione e sopranaturale) decide di trasferirsi nella casa della defunta, scoprendola infestata.
