Jim Wormold vende aspirapolveri in Havana, sua figlia Milly, di diciassette anni, ha l'abitudine di spendere più soldi di quanti ne abbia, così Jim accetta di lavorare per i servizi segreti. Non avendo niente da riportare, Jim inventa fatti e fa finta di reclutare nuovi agenti. Un giorno le sue menzogne vengono a galla.
