Il sapore del sangue (1998)
In un paesino del Montana, Clay e Earl passano il tempo bevendo e sparando alle bottiglie vuote. Earl scopre che Clay è l'amante di sua moglie Amanda e pensa di vendicarsi uccidendosi e facendo ricadere la colpa su Clay. Quest'ultimo viene a conscenza del piano e lo ritiene un cattivo scherzo fino a quando Earl si uccide davvero. Clay racconta la storia ad Amanda che decide di lasciarlo. Nella vita di Clay appare, però Lester Long (Vince Vaughn), uno strano camionista cow-boy, e tra lui e il giovane nasce subito una sincera amicizia. Dopo che Clay casualmente rinviene un cadavere di una donna uccisa a coltellate da un serial killer, entra sulla scena l'agente Dale Shelby (Janeane Garofalo) e le cose per Clay si fanno davvero complicate.
