Le lettere segrete, i diari e le fotografie ritrovati dai soldati americani nel 1945, mentre occupano la casa della famiglia Himmler a Gmund sul lago Tegernsee, esplorano tutto il privato del comandante delle SS Heinrich Himmler: un altro rappresentante della banalità del male, uomo della classe media, frustrato e di poco talento che, a fianco di Hitler, trovò il proprio posto nel mondo.
