Slim e Tubby (Abbott e Costello, da noi: Gianni e Pinotto), due inetti detective americani, si trovano a Scotland Yard per apprendere i segreti del mestiere dalla polizia più efficiente del mondo. Quando un reporter scrive un articolo su un misterioso assassino che terrorizza Londra, i due, coinvolti in una dimostrazione di piazza, finiscono nelle mani del sinistro dottor Jekyll, che per mezzo di una formula chimica segreta libera la propria personalità malvagia deciso a punire, nelle vesti del suo alter ego Mr. Hyde, i colleghi che lo hanno deriso. Mentre il dottore, geloso dei sentimenti della graziosa nipote, tenta di eliminare il giornalista che le fa la corte, Tubby si inietta per errore il siero e trasmette il contagio all'intero corpo di polizia.
