Monsieur Verdoux (1947)
Nella Francia a cavallo tra le due guerre mondiali, la crisi economica provoca disoccupazione e difficoltà alle classi sociali più deboli. Henri Verdoux, impiegato bancario, viene licenziato dopo trent'anni di collaborazione e come conseguenza, per mantenere la famiglia, moglie inferma ed un bimbo piccolo e per assicurare loro una vita dignitosa ed una casa di proprietà, finisce nel tunnel schizoide del delitto per assicurarsi patrimoni con cui finanziare attività speculative.
