Gothic (1987)
Nel 1816 a Villa Donati, sul lago di Ginevra, in una notte tempestosa, Lord Byron con l'amante Claire, e Percy Shelley con la compagna Mary, insieme all'ambiguo dottore Polidori, medico di Byron, bevendo laudano per eccitarsi e farneticando sul demonio e sulle sue apparizioni, s'impegnano in una seduta spiritica. Claire dà in smanie ed accenna ad un bambino morto (probabilmente si riferisce al figlio di cui Mary ha sempre pianto la perdita prematura). Dopo la seduta si cominciano a vedere per casa sanguisughe e pitoni, una capra, molti topi, teste mozze e creature deformi, nel consueto quadro di bianchi tendaggi svolazzanti. Sembra che un inafferrabile fantasma si aggiri nelle tante stanze. Il giorno dopo, tornato il sole, durante un picnic, tutti sorridono e recitano versi. Tutti tranne Mary: la sola che, durante il terrificante incubo notturno, sembra aver presentito e visto il tragico destino di morte che l'avvenire riserba ai presenti.
