Una giovane donna muore improvvisamente: la polizia scopre che la causa del decesso è avvelenamento da arsenico. Dapprima a essere sospettato dagli investigatori è il marito, il cui comportamento in realtà non è privo di elementi che possano far ipotizzare una sua colpevolezza. In seguito l'obiettivo delle indagini si sposta sul fratello di lei, che oltretutto intratteneva con la morta un legame sentimentale in odore di incesto. A questo punto le indagini per scoprire il vero colpevole si presentano sempre più complicate.
