Howard Spence e' stato il protagonista nel passato di importanti film western. Ora e' costretto a girare filmetti senza spessore. Un giorno fugge dal set e l'assicurazione del film scatena un segugio che deve trovarlo. Howard ha condotto per anni una vita sregolata e non vede sua madre da decenni. Sara' proprio lei a fargli sapere che deve avere, in un luogo ben preciso, un figlio ormai divenuto un giovane uomo. Howard va a cercarlo ma si trova davanti ad un rifiuto: il ragazzo non vuole saperne di questo padre piovuto dal cielo. Nel frattempo compare una ragazza a cui e' appena morta la madre.
