Il destino (1997)
Nell'Andalusia del XII secolo vive Ibn Rushd, un importante filosofo islamico, con la moglie Zeinab e la figlia Salma. Il principato è governato da Khalifa ElMansour che ha due figli, ElNasser, un intellettuale che ama Ibn Rush ed è innamorato della figlia Salma. Il figlio minore Abdallah è più appassionato di danza e poesia, trascorre la maggior parte del tempo con la famiglia di zingari e mette incinta la figlia. Il khalifa dipende dagli estremisti per costruire il suo esercito, concedendo loro più potere che usano per combattere artisti e filosofi. Gli estremisti riescono a reclutare Abd Allah e lo addestrano a uccidere il padre. Gli eventi proseguono con l'uccisione di Marawan, il cantante gitano, e il rogo dei libri di Ibn Rushd. Adattato alla vita reale di Ibn Rushd AlMasir è la dichiarazione di Chahine contro l'estremismo.
