Snack Bar Blues (1981)
Don Barnes è un camionista in carcere perché, ubriaco alla guida del suo tir, ha speronato uno scuolabus. CeBe, sua figlia, è un’adolescente ribelle ed emarginata, ossessionata da Elvis Presley e dai Sex Pistols. La madre Kathy, cameriera, è una tossicodipendente che cerca rifugio tra le braccia di altri uomini, compreso Charlie, il miglior amico del marito. CeBe scappa di casa per raggiungere la scena punk di Vancouver: finisce in libertà vigilata minorile, sotto la sorveglianza del benevolo psichiatra Dr. Brean. Dopo la scarcerazione di Don, la famiglia tenta di tornare a essere unita e ricominciare da capo, ma la scoperta di oscuri segreti porta a una conclusione straziante e violenta. Il leggendario critico cinematografico Roger Ebert ha detto del film: “Pollici su! Un amaro, indimenticabile poema sull’alienazione. Uno dei tesori ignorati tra gli ultimi film indipendenti.”
