Jonathan si vede uccidere da bambino i genitori da dei banditi e cresce avendo per fratello un cucciolo di orso bruno e per padre il capo degli indiani Dakota. Divenuto adulto e integrato,sia nel mondo della Natura che in quello degli uomini, è pronto per l'amore ma anche per vendicarsi di coloro che lo hanno reso orfano. Diventerà al contempo il sostenitore della causa dei pellerossa che lo hanno allevato
