La strada dei quartieri alti (1958)
Protagonista è un giovane impiegato di provincia inglese, che vuole a tutti i costi farsi strada nella societá dei ricchi. Perciò corteggia la figlia del magnate del luogo. Nel frattempo, però, ha anche una relazione molto appassionata con una francese, donna sposata e infelice. Un giorno il giovanotto ha la prospettiva del bel matrimonio che lo farebbe salire definitivamente ai quartieri alti. Ma deve lasciare l'amante. La donna si uccide. Lui si sposa, ma col rimorso.
