Il biopic di Ondi Timoner esplora l’arte e la sessualità di Robert Mapplethorpe, fotografo noto per i suoi ritratti provocatori, morto dI AIDS 1989 a soli 42 anni e interpretato dal bravissimo Matt Smith (noto soprattutto per “Doctor Who” e “The Crown). I ritratti, le immagini delle calle e le foto della scena underground del BDSM di New York realizzati da Robert Mapplethorpe rimangono le pietre miliari della fotografia del ventesimo secolo ancora oggi, quasi tre decenni dopo la sua morte.
