Edoardo II (1991)
Della dinastia dei Plantageneti, Edoardo II debole, inetto e corrotto, sale al trono d'Inghilterra a 23 anni nel 1307. Sposato ad Isabella, bella e ardita principessa di Francia, figlia di Filippo il Bello, si contorna di viziosi, fra i quali emerge Piers Gaveston, un guascone omosessuale che il Re, perduta completamente dignità, nomina Gran Ciambellano, colma di titoli e favori e considera addirittura come suo compagno sul trono. Rifiutandosi Edoardo ai rapporti con la consorte, costei, ferita e delusa, si accorda con Mortimer (di cui diventa l'amante) e con gli altri nobili inglesi obbligando Edoardo ad esiliare Gaveston...
