Un documentario unico, a metà tra fiction e realtà, sull’incredibile storia di George Lazenby, un umile meccanico di auto australiano, privo di qualsiasi preparazione in recitazione, che grazie a una serie di improbabili e straordinarie circostanze, ha ottenuto il ruolo di James Bond nel celebre film "Agente 007 - Al servizio segreto di Sua Mestà" (1969). Ma dopo il grande successo mondiale del film, George Lazenby rifiutò un’offerta milionaria per continuare a interpretare la spia più famosa del mondo in sei episodi successivi… "Essere James Bond" svela i retroscena di una delle più bizarre “anomalie” nella storia del cinema, mostrando come la vita privata dell’attore sia stata sconvolta da quell’esperienza, trasformandosi sempre di più nella vita del personaggio.
