Per Ada e Piper Spencer cantare è naturale come respirare. Dotate di talento e determinazione, le due sorelle sperano di realizzare il loro sogno di esibirsi sui palcoscenici di Nashville. Tuttavia, c'è un segreto di famiglia che le due non hanno mai conosciuto: da giovane, il padre ha inseguito il desiderio di sfondare nella musica prima di conoscere la loro madre, arruolarsi nei marines e perdere la vita in Iraq. Ada e Piper non hanno mai conosciuto il genitore ma la scoperta casuale di una lettera induce le ragazze a capire chi fosse realmente.
