La papessa Giovanna (1972)
814 d.c.: Johanna sembra condannata a vivere una vita che non le piace, con un destino già scritto, tipico delle ragazze dell'epoca: lavoro, figli e una morte prematura. Spinta dalla fede e dalla convinzione che il destino abbia in serbo per lei qualcosa di diverso e che Dio le stia mostrando la via da seguire, si oppone al severo padre e alle regole della Chiesa, anche a costo di pagare un prezzo molto alto. Johanna frequenta la scuola nella cattedrale di Dorstadt, dove conosce il Conte Gerold, nobiluomo alla corte del vescovo. La loro amicizia si trasforma presto in amore, ma quando Gerold parte per la guerra, Johanna ricomincia a pensare al suo futuro e ben presto capisce che non riuscirà ad ottenere ciò che vuole proprio perché è una donna. Decide di farsi chiamare Fratello Johannes, riesce ad entrare nel monastero benedettino di Fulda, travestita da uomo, dove vivrà facendo il medico e guadagnandosi la stima di tutti.
