L'archeologa Emma Fielding viene assunta per consultarsi sull'acquisizione di una tenuta simile a un castello che secondo la leggenda locale è maledetta. Ma si ritrova nel bel mezzo di un caso di omicidio dopo aver scoperto il corpo dell'archeologo che era stata assunta come ombra in una camera segreta nelle viscere dell'enorme edificio. Assistita dal suo amico, l'agente speciale dell'FBI Jim Conner, Fielding deve setacciare indizi e una lunga lista di sospetti, ognuno dei quali ha le proprie ragioni per volere l'uomo morto, per determinare chi è l'assassino.
