Una ragazza sordomuta viene violentata da un marinaio. La paternità del bimbo che le nasce viene attribuita al giovane medico che aveva dimostrato interesse per la giovane aiutandola a trovare un modo di esprimersi e comunicare con gli altri. Ma il vero colpevole si scopre quando tenta di sottrarre il bambino alla madre, che disperata lo uccide. Grazie ad una testimonianza, il tribunale le riconosce la legittima difesa e la sordomuta sposa finalmente il medico
