Alvin, Simon e Theodore sono tre scoiattoli che hanno stabilito la loro dimora in un albero che viene abbattuto per farne un albero di Natale. Con i tre ancora all'interno del tronco, l'albero è spedito a destinazione, nell'atrio della prestigiosa Jett Records, guidata dal perfido e astuto Ian Hawk nel centro di Los Angeles. Ian è stato ai tempi del college compagno di stanza di Dave Seville, uno sfortunato musicista e autore che non ha mai abbandonato la speranza di raggiungere il successo professionale attraverso la sua estrosa sensibilità musicale.
