8 Mile (2002)
Detroit, 1995. Il degrado si è impadronito della città: i quartieri un tempo benestanti sono stati abbandonati dai suoi abitanti, anche a causa di una delle sommosse più violente della storia degli Stati Uniti. 8 Mile Road è la strada che divide la città dalla periferia, i bianchi dai neri. Dietro questa difficile condizione si cela però una lunga tradizione di creatività che ha trovato espressione soprattutto nella musica. Anche adesso l'hip hop rimane per molti l'unico modo per sentirsi ancora vivi. È il caso di Jimmy Smith jr. che con i suoi amici Future, Sol, Dj Iz e Cheddar Bob - che costituiscono la sua famiglia alternativa - ha creato un gruppo, i Three One Third con cui spera di dare una svolta alla sua esistenza.
