Gina e Seth sono amici di penna da tredici anni. La ragazza, che vive a Boston e fa la giornalista, un giorno scopre che il suo corrispondente di lunga data sara' presto nella sua citta' per un impegno di lavoro, a cavallo delle imminenti festivita' natalizie. Ma poiche' si erano reciprocamente inviati la foto dei loro rispettivi - e piu' affascinanti - migliori amici, Ellen e Matt, ora si vedono costretti a mandare all'appuntamento questi ultimi. La coppia di "sostituti" si scopre, tuttavia, ben piu' affiatata del previsto e la situazione non puo' far altro che complicarsi...
