Cacciata dalla sontuosa villa dei Dumas, Ruby torna a vivere nella sua vecchia casa, nei pressi dei Mississippi, con l'intenzione di dare una nuova vita a Pearl, sua figlia. Qui ritrova il suo fidanzato dei tempi del liceo, Paul, pronto a sostenerla in ogni modo. Il giovane la fa trasferire nella sua casa e Ruby sente che la speranza per il futuro è tornata a sorriderle, ma la rete di inganni tessuta dalle persone intorno a lei la farà cadere in un complotto. Riuscirà a venirne fuori?
