Jordan White, un amico editore di Perry, viene chiamato in un hotel dove un ospite, il famoso scrittore horror David Hall, ha sgomberato l'hotel per un fine settimana e ha chiamato i suoi "amici" - un'attrice, una cartomante, l'assistente privato di David e i due membri rimanenti dello staff dell'hotel per discutere di affari. Sono venuti in hotel perché tutti faranno causa a David per il suo nuovo libro, "The Resort", i cui personaggi sono ovviamente basati su Jordan e sugli ospiti. David, un burlone pratico, fa loro degli scherzi finché non viene scaraventato fuori dall'alta torre dell'hotel, dove Susan Warrenfield, direttrice e proprietaria dell'hotel, assiste alla caduta e poi Jordan sulla torre, costringendo la polizia ad arrestarlo. Mentre Perry e Della cercano di risolvere il mistero principale, Paul cerca di scoprire chi sta cercando di spaventare Susan e farla allontanare dall'hotel.
