Avery, Emma e Tracy, amiche sin dai tempi del college, durante un week end a San Francisco trovano in un negozio di antiquariato uno splendido e antico velo nuziale intorno al quale ruota una strana leggenda: chiunque ne entrerà in possesso troverà il vero amore. Le tre ragazze incuriosite, decidono di acquistarlo. In attesa di prendere l'aereo che la riporterà a Boston, Avery si troverà a contendersi il taxi con un misterioso e affascinante sconosciuto, che poi scoprirà essere un patrocinatore del museo dove lei lavora: coincidenza oppure è la magia del velo?
