Alan Sidney Patrick Rickman (21 febbraio 1946 – 14 gennaio 2016) è stato un attore e regista inglese. Conosciuto per la sua voce profonda e languida, si formò alla Royal Academy of Dramatic Art di Londra e divenne membro della Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), esibendosi in produzioni teatrali moderne e classiche. Interpretò il visconte de Valmont nella produzione teatrale RSC de Les Liaisons Dangereuses nel 1985 e, dopo che la produzione fu trasferita nel West End nel 1986 e a Broadway nel 1987, fu nominato per un Tony Award. Il primo ruolo cinematografico di Rickman arrivò quando fu scelto per interpretare il leader terrorista tedesco Hans Gruber in Die Hard (1988). È apparso anche come sceriffo di Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), per il quale ha ricevuto il BAFTA Award come miglior attore non protagonista; Elliott Marston in Quigley Down Under (1990); Jamie in Veramente, Madly, Deeply (1991); Colonnello Brandon in Senso e Sensibilità (1995); Eamon DeValera in Michael Collins (1997); Alexander Dane in Galaxy Quest (1999); Metatron in Dogma (1999); Severus Piton nella serie di Harry Potter (2001–2011); Harry in Amore in realtà (2003); Marvin l'androide paranoico in La guida galattica dell'autostoppista (2005); e il giudice Turpin in Sweeney Todd: Il demone barbiere di Fleet Street (2007). Rickman ha debuttato in televisione interpretando Tebaldo in Romeo e Giulietta (1978) come parte della serie Shakespeare della BBC. Il suo ruolo di svolta fu nell'adattamento televisivo della BBC de The Barchester Chronicles (1982). In seguito ha recitato in film televisivi, interpretando il personaggio principale in Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny (1996), che gli è valso un Golden Globe, un Emmy Award e un Screen Actors Guild Award, e Alfred Blalock in Something the Lord Made (2004). Rickman è morto di cancro al pancreas il 14 gennaio 2016 all'età di 69 anni. I suoi ultimi ruoli cinematografici sono stati quello del tenente generale Frank Benson nel thriller Eye in the Sky (2015), e la ripresa del ruolo di voce del bruco in Alice nel Paese delle Meraviglie (2010) in Alice Attraverso lo Specchio (2016).
