Biografia:

Omar Sharif (10 aprile 1932 - 10 luglio 2015) è stato un attore egiziano, generalmente considerato una delle più grandi star maschili del cinema del suo paese. Figlio di un mercante di legname prezioso, crebbe in una famiglia cristiana unita di origine siriana e libanese insieme ai genitori e alla sorella. Iscritto al Victoria College, una prestigiosa scuola britannica ad Alessandria, il ragazzo studiò scienze e lingue straniere e in seguito scoprì le lezioni di teatro. Studente brillante, proseguì gli studi all'Università del Cairo, dove conseguì il diploma in matematica e fisica. In seguito si convertì all'Islam sposando l'attrice egiziana Faten Hamama. Nel 1962 interpretò il ruolo del principe Sherif Ali in Lawrence d'Arabia sotto la regia di David Lean. Questo film, il primo per l'attore fuori dall'Egitto, segnò l'inizio di una lunga amicizia con Peter O'Toole e un punto di svolta nella carriera di Omar Sharif. Vinse il Golden Globe come miglior attore non protagonista e decise di lasciare il suo paese natale per Hollywood.
