Leslie William Nielsen (11 febbraio 1926 – 28 novembre 2010) è stato un attore e comico canadese-americano. Nielsen è apparso in oltre cento film e 1.500 programmi televisivi nel corso della sua carriera, interpretando oltre 220 personaggi. Nato a Regina, Saskatchewan, Nielsen si arruolò nella Royal Canadian Air Force e lavorò come disc jockey prima di ricevere una borsa di studio per il Neighborhood Playhouse. Debuttando in televisione nel 1948, si espanse rapidamente a oltre 50 apparizioni televisive due anni dopo. Nielsen debuttò al cinema nel 1956 e iniziò a collezionare ruoli in drammi, western e film romantici. Le interpretazioni di Nielsen nei film Pianeta proibito (1956) e L'avventura di Poseidone (1972) ricevettero recensioni positive come attore serio, anche se è principalmente noto per i suoi ruoli comici. Sebbene la carriera di attore di Nielsen abbia attraversato una varietà di generi sia in televisione che nel cinema, la sua interpretazione impassiva in Airplane! (1980) segnò una svolta nella sua carriera, uno che lo avrebbe reso, nelle parole del critico cinematografico Roger Ebert, "l'Olivier delle parodie." Nielsen ottenne ulteriore successo con la serie di film The Naked Gun (1988 – 1994), basata sulla serie televisiva di breve durata Police Squad! in cui aveva recitato in precedenza. La sua interpretazione di personaggi seri apparentemente ignari (e complici) del loro ambiente assurdo gli ha dato la reputazione di comico. Nielsen si sposò quattro volte e ebbe due figlie dal suo secondo matrimonio. Nel corso della sua carriera è stato riconosciuto con numerosi premi ed è stato inserito nelle passeggiate della fama del Canada e di Hollywood.
