Stan Laurel (nato Arthur Stanley Jefferson; 16 giugno 1890 – 23 febbraio 1965) è stato un attore comico, scrittore e regista inglese che faceva parte del duo comico Laurel e Hardy. È apparso con il suo partner comico Oliver Hardy in 107 cortometraggi, lungometraggi e ruoli cameo. Laurel iniziò la sua carriera nel music-hall, dove sviluppò diversi dei suoi espedienti comici standard, tra cui il cappello bombetta, la profonda gravità comica e la sottovalutazione insensata. Le sue esibizioni affinarono le sue abilità nella pantomima e negli sketch da music hall. Era membro dell'"Esercito di Fred Karno", dove fu il sostituto di Charlie Chaplin. Lui e Chaplin arrivarono negli Stati Uniti sulla stessa nave dal Regno Unito con la compagnia Karno. Laurel iniziò la sua carriera cinematografica nel 1917 e fece la sua ultima apparizione nel 1951. Dal 1928 in poi apparve esclusivamente con Hardy, e Laurel si ritirò ufficialmente dallo schermo dopo la morte del suo partner comico nel 1957. Nel 1961 Laurel ricevette un premio Oscar alla carriera per il suo lavoro pionieristico nella comicità, e ha una stella sulla Hollywood Walk of Fame al 7021 Hollywood Blvd. Nel 2009, una statua in bronzo della coppia Laurel e Hardy è stata inaugurata nella città natale di Laurel, Ulverston, in Inghilterra.
