Het is een half jaar geleden sinds de wereld in een noodtoestand terechtkwam nadat er miljoenen mensen plotseling verdwenen. Een zogenaamde expert beweert dat er een tweede golf van massale verdwijningen op komst is. Nieuwsanker Cameron 'Buck' Williams wil deze theorie omverwerpen en krijgt daarbij hulp van een hacker. Samen stuiten ze op een samenzwering om de controle over de wereldwijde geldvoorraad over te nemen. Tegelijkertijd worstelen Bucks vriendin Chloe en haar vader Rayford met de verdwijning van een familielid. Rayford gelooft dat zijn vrouw nu in de hemel is en gaat wanhopig op zoek naar antwoorden in een wereld waar de Bijbelse waarheid wordt gecensureerd en verguisd.
