Sergeant Thorne Ryan, die ooit dapper vocht in Korea, dient nu als keiharde drilinstructeur voor nieuwe leger rekruten in Fort Bliss, Texas. Maar is hij werkelijk de man als wie hij vaak wordt omschreven? Zijn collega-instructeur en vriend helpen hem de geesten van zijn eerdere ervaringen in Korea onder ogen te zien. Op een avond in een bar over de grens in Juarez, Mexico, Sgt. Ryan ontmoet een dame die zijn leven begint te veranderen. Zal dit genoeg zijn om hem te helpen met het verleden om te gaan?
