To End All War: Oppenheimer & the Atomic Bomb (2023)
De natuurkundige J. Robert Oppenheimer was een ambitieuze wetenschapper die aan het hoofd kwam te staan van het wapenlaboratorium in Los Alamos, ten tijde van het beruchte Manhattanproject, het onderzoeksproject van de overheid om een atoombom te ontwikkelen. Op 16 juli 1945 vindt de Trinity-test plaats in de woestijn van New Mexico, voor Oppenheimer een succesverhaal na jaren van hard werk. Maar de triomf die de gigantische paddenstoelwolk symboliseerde, werd overschaduwd door het zien van een vernietigende kracht van bijna bovennatuurlijke omvang. Voor Oppenheimer zelf zou het later voelen alsof hij de vernietiger van de wereld was, en dat zou zijn leven voorgoed veranderen.
