Sinds de verkiezing van Narendra Modi in 2014 is India, onder invloed van Hindutva, een nationalistische ideologie die het primaat van de hindoes claimt, veranderd in een autoritair etnisch-religieus regime. Terwijl leden van minderheden worden behandeld als tweederangsburgers, of zelfs als interne vijanden, verspreiden milities van jonge hindoe-extremisten, met de zegen van de machthebbers, terreur. Dankzij de getuigenissen van slachtoffers en aanhangers van Hindutva documenteert dit onderzoek de nationalistische koorts die de grootste democratie ter wereld in zijn greep heeft.
