Het levensverhaal van een gevangene die wacht op zijn proces. Victor Petrini, een veelbelovende intellectueel uit de jaren vijftig en docent filosofie, wordt gearresteerd door de repressieve geheime politie, ten onrechte beschuldigd van spionage, en veroordeeld tot gevangenisstraf en dwangarbeid.
