Rossini: La cenerentola (2005)
In het Italië van de late 18e eeuw werkt de jonge en mooie Angelina als dienstmeisje in het landhuis van Don Magnifico. Geplaagd door haar twee lichtzinnige stiefzussen, Clorinda en Tisby, denkt Angelina verliefd te zijn op een jonge bediende en gaat ze naar het bal. Gekleed in haar mooiste kleren ontmoet ze de man die in werkelijkheid de prins is, en ze vlucht voor hem nadat ze hem een armband heeft gegeven waarmee hij haar even later zal herkennen. De maskers gaan af, en vriendelijkheid en liefde zegevieren! ‘La Cenerentola’ is de laatste opera buffa die Gioachino Rossini voor een Italiaans publiek componeerde. Een dramma giocoso in twee bedrijven, met een libretto van Jacopo Ferretti, vrij bewerkt naar het sprookje ‘Assepoester’ (1697) van Charles Perrault. De opera ging op 28 januari 1817 in première tijdens het carnaval van Rome in het Teatro Valle in Rome. Live opgenomen in de Glyndebourne Opera, Lewes, East Sussex, op 2 en 4 juni 2005.
