The Thing Called Love (1993)
Nashville telt tienduizend singersongwriters die hopen op een doorbraak...maar de kansen daarop zijn minimaal. Miranda-geen familie van Elvis- Presley (Samantha Mathis) is echter vastbesloten haar geluk te beproeven. Dus reist ze van New York naar Nashville en raakt hier bevriend met drie andere gelukszoekers: de verlegen cowboy Kyle Davidson (Dermot Mulroney) uit Connecticut; de Zuiderse schoonheid Linda Lue Linden (Sandra Bullock) en James Wright (River Phoenix), een knappe en arrogante Texaan met een honingzoete stem. Samen proberen zij het te maken in de harde muziekwereld van Nashville en ontdekken onderweg hoop, gebroken harten, geluk...en The Thing Called Love. De befaamde regisseur Peter Bogdanovich (The Last Picture Show, Paper Moon) levert met THE THING CALLED LOVE een levendige, muzikale film af met Phoenix in een van zijn laatste rollen (en de enige rol waarin hij zingt) en een opvallende rol voor Bullock, die een jaar later door de film Speed zou doorbreken als wereldster.
