What Waits Below (1984)
Het Amerikaanse leger voert een test uit voor een speciaal type radiozender, bedoeld om te communiceren met onderzeeërs, in een diep ondergronds grottenstelsel in Midden-Amerika. Wanneer het signaal van een van de zenders plotseling wegvalt, wordt een team van soldaten onder leiding van majoor Elbert Stevens en grotspecialisten onder leiding van Rupert 'Wolf' Wolfsen, waaronder wetenschapper Leslie Peterson, eropuit gestuurd om uit te zoeken wat er is gebeurd. Tijdens hun onderzoek diep onder de grond stuiten ze op een stam albino-grotbewoners die blijkbaar al duizenden jaren van de rest van de wereld zijn afgesloten. De grotbewoners worden gekwetst door radiofrequenties en kunnen infrarood zien, waardoor ze de ontdekkingsreizigers kunnen volgen aan de hand van hun lichaamswarmte.
